Visualizations for a small Museum in the Netherlands.
I am a volunteer in the museum and made these to promote the region:

1. Rufia Materna in Roman Millingen, a Roman Liburna sails home to Villa Eversberg.
(Information from an altar stone and a Roman ship wreck).

2. Castra Herculis, an impression of a Roman Castellum near Arnhem - the Netherlands.

Software: SketchUp, Flash, Photoshop, Videostudio.
Preparation time including research and evaluation is about 1 year.
Rendering: 10 seconds took 1 hour with an AMD Radeon HD6670

Cool projects! Too bad there are no animated, 3D Roman (and other historic) characters in Lumion, isn't it? (Although I have seen very nice "hacks" from a couple of members here already). The only modelling crit I would make is that your arches look extremely segmented. Not only low-poly but also as if the were not smoothed at all. But I love the attention to details. Maybe some more "tweaking" of the materials would also add to the realism (like the roof tiles are too clean and uniformly orange etc.)

Incidentally, I also have a Roman military project (being an archaeologist by original trade myself) although it's still in its "WIP" phase (if you do not mind the off-topic post) - and with similar things to be aded / developed:

Thanks for your comments Gaieus. I had to do the roof tiles as texture, SketchUp could not take a roof of real tiles. It's all a learning process: drawing, history and creating animation which shows in the animation. Lumion misplaced some roping at the port yard of the liburna, to complicated? will be packed differently later.
Your castra in Pannonia is loosely based on Valkenburg?, as is castellum 'Castra Herculis'.
The Roman cavalry has offered to participate in recreating the stables of Castra Herculis and to be a 'motiv'. I am figuring out 'blue screen' horsemen and a story if we do a project.

Well, this is just a "general" - or maybe better to say "ideal" fort where we collected everything (each kind of building) that appears around this region in different forts.

The one over the river is a "real" fortress though it would not match the big one in time (it's a late Roman building).

And surely one cannot model each roof tile as it would not only kill SketchUp but even Lumion with a very big project (we can do it with just a couple of buildings like a villa for instance).
