After doing the test with 1.8 milion Poly architecture , i decided to push Lumion with another complex architectural scene (with complete interior)containing 15 milion polygons!! and the results are:

There are many fantastic renderers out there, but can any of them do all these renderings in 8-12 seconds at resolution 3840* 2160 (individually, took me nearly an hour to place cameras and take shots). Well, i didn't believe myself.

The project was designed in Archicad and then imported into Lumion via 3ds Max.

You can see the original animation done in Vray (Took 4days using 3 PCs) here:

I am working on an animation..will upload later.

Your comments and criticism are most welcome.

I started to render animation in a more organized way…then i bumped into this reflection and some SSAO flickering problem (at the start of the animation, below the foot of the peoples)….. not sure whether it's due to the limitation of my Ati HD 4870 1GB G.card or Lumion's problem. Another problem i faced while setting up the scne that i cannot select some parts of the imported model to apply material. Thisw is the reason why i had to leave the building wall color as diffuse white. The sample animation is below:

cheers.

Amazing work.

We are planning to release the first update to Lumion on tuesday. Including is a method to pick a reflection point per scene or the whole scene (new whole movie effect mechanism) so taht you don't see the massive trees in the reflection. You can also change the minimum reflection distance is that would be a better solution. The SSOA we also looked at. What happens is that on the edge of the screen objects don't calculate their depth so the SSOA looks weird. We solved this by allowing you select a method that renders a larger screen and then cuts out the middle. So please wait till tuesday to try again with the new version. You can now solve it by setting a different zoom angle and cut out in another tool. Also you can set the SSOA range smaller to reduce the effect. We also want you to be able to animate the SSOA range per frame so you can tweak it better for closeups and far shots.

Remember that the cars are around 3000-5000 vertexes the characters are also around 3000 vertexes so the total amount of polygons in your scene which are rendered twice in 2 and 3 star mode is probably 40.000.0000 vertexes!

About not being able to apply a material this is probably a culling problem. Some parts might have flipped polygons. In the update we removed the material picker culling so you should be able to select it all!

@ zinoarchi : I have a small note. the water appears to be green in some shots, i think thats because the grass below the water is not deep enough. try to modify the land below the water by the landscape tools, and you will get a nice looking blue water ;)

Will the demo version be updated on tuesday also? Will the new water dialogue sliders be included?

Thank you very much, guys.

EHAB: right on spot buddy, thanks for the tip.

Ferry: thanks for your update and comments.

archi_pi: the animation is 1 minute length with 30Fps, originally rendered in 1280*720 resolution.l Took me a total of approax. 5 and half hours in 1 PC. (average 10 seconds per frame).

cheers.Laugh
