Hey all,

These images represent a first production attempt with Lumion in our studio. I must say it is a lot of fun and much can be accomplished with it. We still feel a lot can be added to this tool that it doesn't have currently - but it is a good starting point, and very fast!

Let me know what you think ;)

Thanks ;)

Yes, I do... not that I'm any good at animation - Lumion allows me to explore this for the first time ;)

Here is a quick one...

The reflections on the glass are very odd and not real - this must be a know bug right? Trees are reflected where there should not be any tress and the shadows are weird too in reflections.

This is a known limitation in Lumion since it uses cubemap reflections (a 360 degree panorama texture rendered from the camera position). This reflection panorama texture is then projected onto all reflective surfaces in the scene.

You may get better results by using the "Reflection control" movie effect which allows you to set a single static position for the reflection panorama texture (instead of using the camera position). The effect also allows you to turn off object reflections so that it's only the sky and terrain that are reflected.

Personally, I always reduce the reflection amount in the glass material to make this issue less apparent.

Thanks for the tip - will try it!

Any plans to make this better? like having reflections work as in real-life / traditional ray tracing?

One more thing that I had issues with, in this scene, Is editing standard material with bump. Once I changed the bump value from 0 to any higher value the material got darker and none of the other controls seem to have any effect... an no bump was visible.

I tried to override this buy loading first one of the preset materials, and then change the diffuse and normal map and this worked OK but my mapping of the texture was lost and I can't set it back as it should with the tools we have currently.

The window shades for example, was one of these materials I just left as is since I could not edit it with bump & reflection and for it too respond ok.

Is this also a known issue that I can look up a solution in some other thread?

There are currently no plans to implement raytraced reflections in Lumion.

Remko has however mentioned that instead of having a single 360 degree panorama reflection texture which is used for all reflective objects, it might work better if each reflective object had its own panorama reflection texture.

Another issue that they are already aware of is that the reflection texture is quite pixelated and could benefit from filtering/blurring.

Very nice job ! Do you make this pictures and video with the free version ?
That mean : "Not for resale" ? In the context of course ;)

As you probably found out, a Scale slider value of 0 means that the imported UV coordinates are used (these coordinates won't be deleted though, so if you want to revert to the imported coordinates, just set the slider to 0 again).

Regarding the use of normalmaps, the "Bump" channel is actually for normal maps (the blue-ish ones, not greyscale bump maps). It really ought to be renamed to avoid confusion.

That being said, there is currently a bug in Lumion when you try to use normal maps with user-imported UV coordinates, ie, when the Scale slider is set to 0:

Yep - that is what I see when editing custom material. I hope this gets fixed as soon as possible.

Experimenting a bit more with animation inside Lumion... and animation in general actually ;)

I know now that my camera is to fast in most shots. I had some issues with frame rate and the animation being jumpy, but I think I've sort it out in this version.

Reflections are odd at times - but I know now why.

Would love to know what you think of this.

looks pretty cool. !

sometimes to fast for my taste.
the brown/bronce texture has a little tiling problem i think (best visible at the roof)

may i ask you what grafic card and driver you are using. You dont seem to have any glitches and problems.
