cbcarch - for this type of similar quality, usually in 3ds max it takes about 5 minutes per frame to render vs. like 5 seconds per frame in Lumion so that alone is a huge stretch in rendering time, and why Lumion is so great!
So for example, for that 4 min animation I did in Lumion, that took 7 hours to render, using Max, it would take about 240 seconds x 30 frames/sec = 7200 frames to render. On average it takes 5 minutes to render one frame at HD quality, so 7200 x 5 = 36000 minutes, 600 hours, or 25 DAYS of non stop rendering!
Thats 7 hours vs. 25 days!! So you either need more computers to help you render or just wait 25 days to render!
I would have used distributed rendering, if rendering in Max, if I had multiple machines, but at the moment, I only have one good machine.
Again, you can't really compare Max and Lumion by general computer specs, because Lumion operates specifically on GPU (graphic Card), the faster graphic card, the better your chances of rendering faster. Max uses CPU to render at the moment, there are some new plugins that use GPU, but I don't think they are as good as Lumion yet.
Hopefully that helps,
Thanks,
