Here are a couple of shots from a model that I did originally in Sketchup....export to .dae and into Lumion.  I'm so impressed with this software it isn't even funny....my wife thinks I've gone mad because I keep spending my weekends at work building models and using Lumion to generate terrific stills as well as animations.  I can't get enough!  :-D

Thanks for sharing.  Nice work.  Nice looking building complex.  Plenty of car parking.

Will you have any interior views or is it exterior only?

I will have interior views as well. Probably later this week or early next week. The interior designer is still working on ideas with the owner.

Lumion has been a godsend.

Godsend is right!  I still feel like I'm dreaming....I keep waiting to wake up and realize that this software doesn't actually exist!  My previous rendering/modeling setup involved Sketchup and Vray using a rendering farm here in our office of 10 computers.  Images that I get out of Lumion in 20 seconds used to take my computer plus the farm of 10 computers about 1 to 2 hours to finish.  I'm still blown away that I can walk around the site and just randomly shoot pictures that are render quality.  I find myself just clicking the save image button every time I turn around....which sometimes leads to less than stellar image compositions!  It reminds me of going from a 35mm film camera to a digital SLR....it is so easy to shoot that you sometimes forget about the elementary rules of compostion in the shot.  Now that I'm starting to "calm" down with Lumion I remember to actually take time to compose a shot and save it in the file as one of the "saved" shots so I can go back to it easily.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SOFTWARE!!!  (I'm shouting it from the top of my roof right now....)  :-D

Absolutely. This beats out traditional methods hands down for speed to quality ratio, IMHO.

Fact is, although these guys are still developing and relatively new to our industry, there is no better solution AND potential solution that i can see right now. PLUS, you will find that this community is full of talented, helpful people, and Lumion Staff, any time you need help. Seriously, the development from day one and participation of the Lumion team has been second to none in my estimation.

I too find myself "flying" around my sites just for the shear sake of enjoying the scenery ;) and exploring.

You will find many things need improvement and that some things are tedious compared to other software we are accustomed to, but you will also find that this thing is improving and taking shape right before our eyes at the same time that we are using it to cut down our process and actually make animations (and stills) much more affordable for all.

Glad to witness your excitement!

Bob

My only reservation about this software is that, like other software development I've witnessed in the past, the shear simplicity and ease of use that started out in the beginning gets lost through implementation of more and more user features.  I'd rather give up some "ease of use" features if the program remains stable and easy to use in its main form....  I think the worst thing that happens in software development is when the developers try to cater to every little user request.  In doing so I believe they lose sight of the big picture and in the original development purpose of the software (think AutoCAD).

The short of it is:  Keep on track with your mission of the software and change course only after carefully weighing the results.

You are spot on. I believe the dev team is dedicated to avoiding that very trap based on conversations i have seen posted here. many people are suggesting many things to allow them to do what they do in other software packages within lumion but from what i have seen, they are strongly against sacrificing the simplicity and performance for the sake of incorporating certain features.

i hope Morten or someone from lumion can address this but i'm pretty sure they have said as much. BUT, it cant hurt to express that opinion as often as you feel necessary :)

Playing around with some of the "sketch" features of the software...every time I use this software I love it a little more...sometimes a LOT more!  WOW...great work guys.  Keep it up!   :-D

These views are taken from the same Lumion project shown at the start of this post.  All I did was manipulate the sketch effect to the scene and export out of Lumion.  No photoshop work at all.  The model is all Sketchup with Lumion vegetation, people, and cars added.  This software saves me more time than I ever imagined!  How can I go about becoming a reseller of this software?

Hello All,

It is in our nature to try to please our users. If you listen to all requests stuff eventually breaks down. We did the same with Quest3D and ended up with a program that did way to much in a way to hard method.

We plan not to make this mistake again. So now I only need to scare of Morten with all feature requests he reads and try to not read to many myself.

Let me list some requests that I do get:

Add that sunlight changes color if it hits a colored window. (hard to create)
Change the static shadow map resolution to 2048. (most users will run out of memory)
Change the sunlight shadow map to 8192. (needs 1.6 GB of memory on a mac and hardly any quality gain)
Include VRAY as a render option. (no fast render anymore)
Work on radiosity (when we do it is Lumion style which is still fast render)

We believe our easy of use and speed of render and our content are our strongest points. This also means that these will be the areas we want to focus most attention on. You must understand that pressure from many many sides tries to steer us away from this goal. Also while developing Lumion that has been a great struggle.

The main reason most software tools are so horrible to use is that they are created and thought of by hardcore developers.

Luckily we have a few people that understand or where slowly converted into people that do know what is actually important.

So what you can expect from us is of course still progress in quality of final output. But our main goals are even easier use and keep the rendering fast.

I am now for example in the progress of removing the advanced interface button from the settings menu since it is confusing. We want to avoid stuff like that and come up with a better solution to tackle the same problem.

Feedback on things that are hard interface wise in Lumion are of course welcome.

Have fun using Lumion we are having fun creating it for you all ;)

The biggest concern i have with Lumion is it's lack of adequate reflection, i've strarted yesterday using C4D and i've really been missing reflectivity since rendering with Lumion, it adds sooooooooooooooo much realism.
