I just did my first Lumion rendering. It is with Lumion 8 and Vectorworks 2018.
Just tried a relatively easy 3D model. Modelling in VW about 1 hour and in Lumion approx. 3 hours (beginner mode ;-)). Rendering time with my iMac approx. 7 hours.
I like it and I am happy to see the result. For me Lumion is very promising and a perfect complement to Vectorworks.
Best regards
Nik

Hi NF,
Good Job,
I would be interested to know how you export your files from VW to Lumion.  I am a fellow VW user but I still use VW 12 as I have a third party plugin that exports to Cinema as this retains all the material names/classes that I allocate to a VW model (ie glass, brickwork etc). I then export this as a Collada from Cinema to Lumion. If I export directly from VW 18 as a Collada it seems to just retain the different material allocations by the class colour rather than by the name.
Cheers,
J

Hi J,

thank you!

I export directly to FBX Format. I'm not sure what is the best way to do this. Morten mentioned DAE (Collada) Format would be the best out of VW for Lumion.

With the VW 2018 export options you can choose material or color etc.

Would be really nice to get some Vectorworks Pro tip's for me as well. I'm still struggling with the process and efficiency...into Lumion.

Do you know for instance how to do some road signs (directly on street pavement)?
Are these very tiny 3D elements or is there another way to do it!?

Thx and keep in touch!

Nik

Hi J. and NF

If you post those questions in the Import and Export Board, we can follow up on things.  I'm not sure if Morten has Vectorworks, and I don't, only via a trial.  But either ourselves or our Import/Export Developer will be happy to sort out any issues you have.  Both FBX and Collada are strong, core export formats, and we rely on other software conforming to the format rules, but that does not happen sometimes, or for very specific modelling situations.  In any case, lets have a look at the problems and we can take it up from there.
