Lumion is on a roll! The projects submitted to the gallery in the past months are absolutely stunning. To ensure more and more amazing visuals in the future we have some exciting updates planned for this year. Today Act-3D is proud to announce the first update for the Lumion software package.
The new update is downloadable for licensed users. And an updated demo version is also available.

Short overview

The new updates increases stability, quality and performance. The reactions to version 1.0 are overwhelmingly positive and the latest update wil strenghten the excellent user experience of Lumion.
New improvements include:

* Scaling is now available for all objects
* You can define multiple snapshots / camera presets in build mode
* Objects can be oriented along the direction of the underlying surface
* More control over reflection maps
* New material options
* Vehicles have rotating wheel
* More scene parameters are animatable
* Support for NVIDIA 3D Vision
* New objects in content library
* Weather mode now has easy presets

New and improved objects

26 new flower objects, 8 new bushes/shrubs, 2 new grass objects, 2 new animated cows, 44 new British road signs, 68 vehicles now include spinning wheels when animated, 1 new animated fish
 
Full new an improved feature list

* When the transformation gizmos are at the exact same position they are now displayed with a small offset to make it easier to click on them. This works for up to 5 objects.

- A new 2D billboard material can now be applied to user-imported planes to make them face the camera at all times.
- Standard and Lightmap materials can now use DDS and PNG textures.
- When rendering trees/plants in Movies and Photos, the distance where they change to lower levels of details is now 9999 times greater.
- Q and E keys now move the camera up and down.
- Tangent calculations are now used for user-imported UV coordinates.
- The Help button has now been moved so it's harder to accidentally click on it.
- A new paging system for user materials has been implemented, so you can add more materials to each model.
- In Record mode, sliders now also allow you to set the Exposure and Focal length animations.
- Stopping an animation in Record mode now uses the active camera position and orientation when adding a new frame.
- There's now a playback slider in Record mode.
- Custom materials have been renamed to Standard and Lightmap materials, and new icons and slider names have been added.
- Default settings for materials have been improved.
- The selection of materials for new materials is now order dependent.
- The Siderock parameter now also works for the Rock material in the Material library.
- Deleting a custom object from the library now deselects that model.
- You can no longer delete a model from your library that is in use in the scene.
- Panning now also works with [SHIFT] to make the camera pan faster.
- Pressing [G] in "Advanced Move" mode now always places the object on the Lumion terrain.
- The camera will now stop moving faster than before.
- In "Advanced Move" mode, rotating an object is now measured relatively.
- Shadow range can now be set from 0 to 2 which corresponds to a far range of 400m to 1500m.
- In Advanced Move mode, [SHIFT] now moves the current selection plus any object you drag around.
- Effects can now be added to the "Whole Movie" instead of just to clips.
- Each instance of the Water material can now use different settings.
- The "Reflection Control" effect now lets you adjust the reflection point range and type.
- The "Move item" effect can now be applied to imported models.
- The "Layer Selection" context menu now shows which layer the selected model is on.
- A new lock object position command (Modify Object -> Transformation
-> Lock) allows you to lock the movement of selected objects.
- When using the "Space" command, rotation is not altered anymore.
- New fullscreen shortcut [CTRL] + [F11]
- New maximize window shortcut with/without taskbar [F11]
- The path of animated objects is now displayed when using the "Move item" effect.
- The rotation of animated people and animals is now displayed when using the "Move item" effect.
- New "Extra frame edge" slider. This increases the render time but can eliminate Godray/SSAO artifacts along the edges of renderings.
- A new rendering progress bar has been added.
- An estimate of the remaining rendering time is now displayed while rendering a movie.
- Individual clips can now be rendered as opposed to having to render the whole movie every time.
- "Animate SSAO Range" (Ambient Occlusion shadows) can now be animated in the Movie section.
- A "Multiply" slider has been added to the Lightmap material to give you better control over the material.
- wheels of vehicles will now spin when you animate them with the "Move item" effect.
- Trees/plants do not snap to each other anymore and you can't accidentally place other objects on top of trees
- the Standard material now also supports a transparency mask (Just set the "Reflection or Clipping" slider to 1)
- A new "Godrays" effect has been added to the Movie section.
- Pressing G while adding or moving objects in your scene allows you to turn 'snap-to-vehicles and -people' off, so that you do not accidentally stack new objects on top of these object types
- The underwater view has now been improved.
- The "Cut clip" effect has been made more intuitive to use.
- You can now press L to lock the gizmos/context buttons for objects that are near the mouse cursor.
- A new randomize scale/rotation function (Modify Object -> Transformation -> Randomize -> Rotation/Scale -> 10%/20%/30% Scale) makes it easy to create variations of similar objects.
- The orientation of all objects (with the exception of Trees/plants) can now be made to adapt to the inclination of the Lumion terrain ([CTRL]-select objects -> Move object button -> Hold down the F key (for Flatten), then left-click on the Rotate Bank or Rotate Pitch gizmos of one of the selected objects).
- If you hold down [F] while moving selected objects they will also adapt to the inclination of the terrain.
- Up to 10 camera positions can now be saved ([CTRL] + [1], [2], [3] … [9],
  • ). Saved camera positions can be loaded by pressing [1], [2], [3] etc and the saved slots are also available as easily accessible thumbnails in Photo mode.

- If you add an effect to the Main Movie it will always select the first category.
- A new "Shadow clipping" slider in the Weather section helps prevent shadows from being offset from objects resting on the ground.
- The UV scale slider in Standard materials is now set to 0, so that it uses UV coordinates from the imported model by default. This information has also been added to the Help text.
- All buttons should now be more reponsive to mouse-clicks.
- Tooltips, effect names etc have been modified for improved readability.
- The frames-per-second counter has now been moved to the upper right corner of the screen.
- "Email" pictures can now be saved in multiple formats.
- The Bump value is now automatically set to 0.5 when adding a bumpmap texture to a Standard material.
- Pressing SHIFT while moving objects in your scene now allows you to turn snapping off (Without this feature, objects that need to be in the air or objects that overlap other objects are very difficult to place correctly)
- Movies now render each frame in incremental steps in order to improve stability.
- You can now use [CTRL] + [F] while moving 1 object to align it with the inclination of the object below it (this only works with 1 object, not with a selection of objects).
- Placing many object should now be quicker as the baking function is only activated when switching to another section (e.g. Weather, Movie etc).
- Pressing CTRL while executing the "Same height" and "Space" commands now ensures that the selected objects use the same height as the object you clicked on.
- The path of user-imported files is now displayed when the mouse cursor is over the "Reload" button.
- Pressing [ALT] while clicking on the "Reload" button now lets you choose a new file.
